#976 Slovenia 15/07/14

Slovenia 150714This beautiful cover from Slovenia was sent by Daniela, thank you! It was posted in Cerklje na Gorenjskem on July 14 and arrived on July 20, 2015.

The two stamps on the left are part of the set “Birds of Slovenia” (issued on May 29, 2015); they depict the stock dove (Columba oenas) and the black stork (Ciconia nigra).

The right stamp is part of a set, which commemorates coats of arms of nobility. It was issued on September 26, 2013. The stamp depicts the coat of arms of Herberstein.

Latvia 140609This very nice cover from Latvia was sent by Oleg, thank you! It was posted in Rīga on June 9 and arrived on June 11, 2014.

The left stamp was issued on February 23, 2008, and depicts an Easter Egg.

The middle stamp commemorates Latvian fairy tales. It was issued on August 23, 2008.

The two stamps on the right are part of the series “Coat of Arms”. They were issued on March 15, 2012 and depict the coat of arms of Kurzeme (Courland) and Dobele.

#623 Dominican Republic 13/01/22

Dominican Rep 130122On January 28 I received this nice registered cover from the Dominican Republic. It was posted in Santo Domingo on January 22, 2013.

The left stamp commemorates the sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus); it is part of the whales stamp set, which was issued on August 14, 1995.

The insects mini-sheet was issued on September 10, 1999, and depicts the Puerto Rican Rhinoceros Beetle (Strataegus quadrifoveatus), the Jaeger’s Anetia Butterfly (Anetia jaegeri), a cricket of the Tettigoniidae family, and a stick insect of the Phasmidae family (Aplopus sp.).

The next stamp is part of the set “Endemic Birds”, which was issued on September 19, 2012. It commemorates the Hispaniolan Crossbill (Loxia megaplaga).

Finally the stamp on the right was issued on February 10, 2010; it depicts the coat of arms of the Dominican Republic.

The left stamp is part of the set “Declaration of Independence”, which I wrote about already in post #255.

The four definitives depict the coat of arms of Aizkraukle, Zemgale, Auce, and Staicele.

The right stamp was issued on May 5, 2008. It depicts a Cartercar.

Jean Pierre, thank you very much for this beautiful cover from Andorra! It was posted in Andorra la Vella on January 23, 2010.

The set of stamps on the left are definitives depicting the coat of arms of Andorra. The right Christmas stamp was issued on December 14, 2009. It depicts a painting of 1530 showing the epiphany.

I had the chance to travel through this interesting country in 2007, and I really enjoyed the trip.

Lithuania 08/11/28

This beautiful cover has attached a set of three stamps issued on July 3, 1993, depicting the coats of arms of Skuodas, Telšiai, and Klaipėda (top left to right).

In addition there is a stamp depicting a sailing ship with flags of Baltic Sea countries as sails. This stamp was issued on June 25, 1997, and commemorates the second sport games of the Baltic sea countries. The image on the cover is a silhouette of the stamp theme.

Finally, there is a stamp of a set issued in 2007, which commemorates the “Wooden Church Belfries of Lithuania”.
