#623 Dominican Republic 13/01/22
On January 28 I received this nice registered cover from the Dominican Republic. It was posted in Santo Domingo on January 22, 2013.
The left stamp commemorates the sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus); it is part of the whales stamp set, which was issued on August 14, 1995.
The insects mini-sheet was issued on September 10, 1999, and depicts the Puerto Rican Rhinoceros Beetle (Strataegus quadrifoveatus), the Jaeger’s Anetia Butterfly (Anetia jaegeri), a cricket of the Tettigoniidae family, and a stick insect of the Phasmidae family (Aplopus sp.).
The next stamp is part of the set “Endemic Birds”, which was issued on September 19, 2012. It commemorates the Hispaniolan Crossbill (Loxia megaplaga).
Finally the stamp on the right was issued on February 10, 2010; it depicts the coat of arms of the Dominican Republic.
