#936 French Southern and Antarctic Lands – Îles Glorieuses 15/01/19

TAAF 150119This very nice cover from the Glorioso Islands (Îles Glorieuses) was sent by Roland, thank you very much! It was cancelled on January 19 and arrived on May 11, 2015.

The stamp is a joint issue with the Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, and the Seychelles. It was issued on October 9, 2014 and depicts the green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas).

French Polynesia 150331This beautiful cover from French Polynesia was sent by Jean Pierre, thank you! It was posted in Mahina (Tahiti) on March 31 and arrived on April 13, 2015.

The two stamps on the left are part of the mini-sheet, which depicts the new banknotes of 2014. The mini-sheet was issued on January 20, 2014.

The stamps on the right are part of a set, which was issued on January 29, 2015 and commemorates some professions.

The left stamp (issued on January 11, 2014) commemorates the 500th anniversary of the death of Anne de Bretagne (1477–1514).

The stamp on the right is part of the set “French Overseas Territories”, which was issued on November 25, 2011.

#854 French Southern and Antarctic Lands – Île de la Possession 10/03/27

TAAF 100327Here is another very nice cover from the Crozet Islands, thank you Jean Pierre! It was cancelled at the Alfred Faure base on Île de la Possession on March 27 and arrived on September 24, 2010.

On the back there is the cancel of Bruno Jean, who was the gérant postal of the 47th mission.

TAAF 100327 backThe left stamp was issued on January 1, 2010. It is part of the “Minerals” series and commemorates a tourmaline. The stamps on the right commemorate Dr Jean Rivolier, who was the physician of the 1952/53 French Antarctic expedition.

#841 French Southern and Antarctic Lands – Kerguelen Islands 14/03/21

TAAF 140321Jean Pierre sent me this wonderful cover from the Kerguelen Islands, thank you very much!

On March 21, 2014, it was cancelled at Port-aux-Français and arrived on September 21 the same year.

The left stamp is part of the “Logos” set, which was issued on April 29, 2013. The stamp set on the right was issued on January 2, 2012. It commemorates the former observatory station at Point Molloy on the main Kerguelen island La Grande Terre.

On the back of the cover there are the cachets of the Chef de District Christian Fressignac and the Gérant Postal Alain Neufville.

Reunion 140911On September 16 I received this cover from Réunion, which was sent by Michel, thank you! It has the postmark “LA POSTE 19595A”, which is the machine postmark of the post sorting centre in Saint-Denis.

The stamps are part of the “Holiday” stamp set, which was issued on May 3, 2014.

St. Martin 140225This very nice cover from the French part of Saint Martin was sent by Ante, thanks a lot! It was posted in Marigot on February 25 and arrived on March 10, 2014.

The attached stamps were issued on January 8, 2014. They commemorate a jewel heart of the Baccarat company.

Ante also included a postcard showing a map and views of Saint Martin.

#746 New Caledonia 13/05/21

New Caledonia 130521-2This very nice cover from New Caledonia was sent by Jean Pierre, thank you very much! It was posted in Nouméa on May 21 and arrived on June 3, 2013.

The left stamp (issued on November 8, 2012) commemorates the marine life of the Great South Bay Lagoon. The right stamp (issued March 8, 2013) depicts birds in the zone of the Entrecasteaux reefs, which are located in the northwest of New Caledonia. The reefs became an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008.
