#201 Nigeria 09/10/09
My first cover from Nigeria was sent to me by Edwin, thank you! It was posted in Calabar on October 9, 2009.
The left stamp was issued in 2008 and has the inscriptions “Overloading Is Dangerous/Stop It!” and “Safer Roads, Fuller Lives”. It commemorates the 20th anniversary of the Federal Road Safety Commision.
The top middle stamp depicts the Nigerian coat of arms. The top right stamp commemorates the “24th UPU Congress Nairobi 2008” (inscription), which is interesting, because the 24th congress was held in Geneva! The stamp depicts the ceremonial customes of a Tiv couple in north-central Nigeria.
Finally, the last stamp commemorates the bicentennial anniversary of Mungo Park (1771-1806), a Scottish explorer of Africa.
