#848 Congo Republic 14/08/22

Congo 140822My first cover from the Republic of the Congo was sent by Matthew, thank you very much! It was posted in Brazzaville on August 22 and arrived on October 6, 2014.

The left stamp is part of the set, which commemorates the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus. It was issued on May 30, 1991, and depicts the ship Santa María.

The next stamp depicts the flower Strelitzia reginae. It is part of a set, which was issued on December 23, 1976. The middle stamp (issued May 5, 1980) commemorates the visit of Pope John Paul II.

The next stamp is part of the “Flowers” set (issued May 10, 1996) and depicts the cornflower (Centaurea cyanus). The right stamp commemorates the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. It is part of a stamp set, which was issued on July 30, 1964.
