#969 French Southern and Antarctic Lands – Kerguelen Islands 10/04/02
Here is another beautiful cover from the Kerguelen Islands, which was sent by Jean Pierre in 2010, thank you very much! It was cancelled at Port-aux-Français on April 2 and arrived on October 8, 2010.
The two stamps on the left are part of the “Petrels” mini-sheet, which was issued on January 1, 2009. The stamps depict the grey petrel (Procellaria cinerea) and the common diving petrel (Pelecanoides urinatrix).
The three middle stamps are part of the “Flags” set, which was issued on January 1, 2008. The stamp below was issued on January 1, 2009. It is part of the “Minerals” series and depicts a pyrite.
Finally, the right stamp (issued on January 1, 2009 too) commemorates the 175th anniversary of the death of Henri Paschal de Rochegude (1741–1834), who was a French admiral. In 1773 he lead an exploring expedition to Australia.
