Iran 08/11/23

iran-081123Registered cover from Iran, posted in Teheran on November 23, 2008.

Hamzeh sent me this beautiful cover with stamps depicting the fish Carassius auratus (goldfish), Poecilia reticulata (guppy), and Betta splendens (Siamese fighting fish). The stamps are a set “New Year 1383 – Ornamental Fresh Water fishes”, which was issued on March 6, 2004. The Iranian calendar year 1383 corresponds to the Gregorian calendar year 2004 (March 2004 to March 2005 to be more exact).

The cover is a FDC of the above mentioned stamp set, which has two commemorative cancel with the inscription “New Year”. There is also the postmark of the posting date (Gregorian calendar).

On the back side there are an unknown sticker (the customs label?), the registered sticker, and a machine printed label with the posting date in Iranian calendar (04. 9. 87). In addition there are an “express” mark on both sides.

Thank you, Hamzeh, for sending me this interesting cover!
