#537 Armenia 09/??/??

Thanks to my friend collector in Armenia for sending this nice FDC! The stamps and FDC was issued on December 14, 2007, but the cover was posted in 2009.

The stamp set is an Armenian-Greek joint issue. The stamps depict sculptures of the goddesses Aphrodite (left) and Anahit (right).

Thank you, Kazimierz, for sending this beautiful FDC from Poland! It was posted in Tarnobrzeg on September 22 and arrived on October 6, 2011.

The FDC and stamps are entitled “Traces of Karol Wojtyła” (Pope John Paul II) and commemorate the village Niegowić.

#490 Slovenia 11/07/25

Thank you, Saša, for sending this beautiful cover from Velenje, Slovenia. It was posted on July 25 and arrived on July 28, 2011.

The mini-sheet on the left was issued on May 27, 2011, and commemorates the Slovenian musician Johann Gerstner (1851-1939). The top right mini-sheet commemorates the 80th anniversary of the KUD Pošta Maribor Brass Band. The stamp was issued on March 25, 2011. Finally, the bottom stamp was issued on March 25 too; it commemorates the Carthusian monastery in Bistra near Vrhnika.

The stamps depict the Protestant Church of Apia, the Piula College of Upolu, the Anglican Church of Apia, the Methodist Church of Mutiatele, and Mauga in Apia.

This cover was delivered by a stagecoach from Garsten to Christkindl on November 27, 2011.

The attached stamp is the advent stamp, which was issued on November 11, 2010. It depicts a painting of the Golden Roof in Innsbruck.

Thank you, Jean Pierre, for sending this nice cover from French Polynesia! It was posted in Arue (Tahiti) on January 26 and arrived on February 2, 2011.

The left stamp was issued on October 14, 2010. It depicts a moth of the sphinx genus. The two right stamps were issued on December 9, 2010. They commemorate the Legend of Moua Puta. It is said that the god Hiro wanted to steal the mountain Rotui, which is the most beautiful place on the island of Moorea. At the Rotui the dead make a rest before they go to underworld. One night Hiro wanted to steal the mountain, but the warrior Pai drove him back by throwing a lance at him. The lance pierced the other famous mountain of the island, which since then is called Moua Puta, “pierced mountain”

The top left stamp was issued on October 17, 2009. It commemorates the “100th Anniversary of Montreal Canadiens“. The top right stamp is part of the set “Roadside Attractions”, which was issued on July 6, 2009. It depicts the Sign Post Forest in Watson Lake, YT.

The bottom left stamp is part of the set “Beneficial Insects” (issued October 12, 2007). It depicts the Golden-eyed Lacewing (Chrysopa oculata). The bottom right stamp is part of the Christmas set, which was issued on November 2, 2009.

The four stamps on the right are part of the set “Sanctuaries of the Holy Mary“, which was issued on August 14, 2004. The middle left stamp is part of a 1997 set and depicts a manor in Łopuszna. The bottom left stamp is part of the series “Polish Cities” and commemorates the city of Sieradz. It was issued on July 29, 2005.

The attached mini-sheet consists of five self-adhesive stamps depicting fairies. It was issued on January 25, 2010.

The special cancellation commemorates a philatelic exhibition in Pola de Siero.

This nice cover from Portugal was sent to me by Rui José, thank you very much!

The cover was posted in Lisbon on December 18, 2009. The special cancellation commemorates the 90th anniversary of the International Labour Organization (Organização Internacional do Trabalho, OIT). The inscription says “90 anos a trabalhar pela justiça social” (“90 years working for social justice”).

The stamp is part of the Christmas set, which was issued on October 21, 2009.
