This postal stationery was issued for Christmas 1983. It has the inscriptions “Biglietto Postale – Natale 1983″ and depicts a painting of Raffaello Sanzio (1483-1520; better known as Raphael), which shows the three kings visiting new-born Jesus. In addition to the value of 300 lire, a definitive stamp of 500 lire showing the Castle of Rovereto was attached.

Cover from Italy, posted in Bellusco, Milan on October 18, 2008.

This cover has interesting postage, because two of the three stamps have the old Italian currency “Lire”. I can’t imagine that the old currency stamps are still valid in Italy, but the stamps were all normally cancelled.

The left stamp has a face value of 50 Lire; it was issued in 1974 and commemorates the 100th anniversary of Italy’s bar association (Ordine Forense).

The middle stamp was issued in 1972 and has a face value of 50 Lire too. It commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Italian alpine club Società degli Alpinisti Tridentini, which was founded on September 2, 1872 in Madonna di Campiglio.

The right stamp has a face value of 0.60 euro. It was issued in 2008 and commemorates the Olympic Games in Beijing.
