#115 Australian Antarctic Territory 09/03/15

aat-090316My first cover with a stamp of the Australian Antarctic Territory (AAT) was posted in Garfield on March 15, 2009. The stamp is part of a set, which was issued on March 4, 2009.

This issue of two AAT stamps is part of a world wide initiative involving more than 30 national postal administrations highlighting the importance of the Earth’s poles and glaciers and how global warming may affect them.

The $2.05 stamp features a jade iceberg highlighting the unique beauty and elemental nature of Antarctica. As part of this stamp issue, a special ice crystal logo has been designed by Saku Heinänen of Finland and will appear on the stamps of participating countries.cited from here

belgium-090307Thomas send me this nice FDC with the two stamps of the mini-sheet issued on March 7, 2009. It commemorates the Belgian feminist movement. They depict Marthe Boël (1877-1956) and Lily Boeykens (1930-2005). According to the info of Belgian Post, the stamps have a value of € 0.59 each.

This nice cover from my Romanian friend has attached the Christmas stamp, which was issued on November 5, 2008. The stamp (face value 1 leu) was issued in sheets of 8 stamps + 1 label in the centre. In addition a limited edition (7550 sheets) with silver foil was issued.

The two right stamps are of the third part of the series “Romanian pottery”, which was issued on November 24, 2005.

It commemorates the “30th Anniversary of Reform and Opening Up”. In addition to the 2008 stamp of 1.20 yuan, there are four stamps attached: The two left ones are part of the series “Protecting the common homeland of mankind” and has the title “Forest conservation”. It was issued on February 2, 2002. The middle two stamps depict the birds Chinese Monal Pheasant (Lophophorus lhuysii) and Ala Shan Redstart (Phoenicurus alaschanicus); they were issued on November 15, 2006 resp. April 1, 2002.

The bottom left stamp of 5 cent is part of the set “Portuguese Masks”, which was issued on June 29, 2006. It depicts a mask of the “Festa dos Rapazas”. The two right stamps are of the 2008 lighthouse set. The top left stamp of 2 cent depicts the bird Abelharuco; it is part of the set “Birds of Portugal III”, which was issued on February 26, 2002.

switzerland-081125In November I received a parcel from Switzerland, which was posted in Wil. The postage was paid with 3 of the famous wood stamps (made of fir and issued on September 7, 2004) à 5 franc, a 0.20 franc stamp, a stamp commemorating the Swiss tennis star Roger Federer (issued on April 10, 2007). In addition to the stamps there is a “priority” and a machine label, which shows the exact posting time and the weight of the parcel.

Cover from Pakistan, posted in Karachi on January 9, 2009. Malik sent me this nice cover commemorating the famous assassinated Pakistani politician Benazir Bhutto Shaheed (1953-2007). Malik added four stamps and a mini-sheet commemorating the 55th birthday celebrations of Bhutto; these stamps were cancelled with the special cancellation “1st Martyrdom Anniversary of Mothrama Benazir Bhutto Shaheed”, which was issued on her assassination date December 27. The two middle stamps of 4 rupees were cancelled with an ordinary date cancel.

In the bottom left corner information on the postage was written. The five stamps have the exact airmail postage of 38 rupees (approx. 0.37 €).
