Turkey 08/11/10

turkey-081110This beautiful cover was sent to me by Ahmet from Pasaport/Izmir. It was posted on November 10, 2008.

The top four stamps are of a 1960 set commemorating the spring flower festival in Istanbul. The bottom left two stamps were issued on July 10, 2007. They are part of a definitive series showing the 81 Turkish provinces. They depict the south-eastern province of Siirt. The bottom right stamp is the EUROPA stamp issued on May 9, 2008.

Milan sent me this nice cover with two different stamps, both issued on November 5: “Christmas Tradition” on the right and a stamp with two coupons attached. It commemorates the 90th anniversary of the Czech post. It shows a painting of Josef Lada (1887-1957). Milan wrote about these stamps in this post.

This beautiful cover has attached a set of three stamps issued on July 3, 1993, depicting the coats of arms of Skuodas, Telšiai, and Klaipėda (top left to right).

In addition there is a stamp depicting a sailing ship with flags of Baltic Sea countries as sails. This stamp was issued on June 25, 1997, and commemorates the second sport games of the Baltic sea countries. The image on the cover is a silhouette of the stamp theme.

Finally, there is a stamp of a set issued in 2007, which commemorates the “Wooden Church Belfries of Lithuania”.

Kazimierz sent me this beautiful FDC, which commemorates the 50th anniversary of the “Kabaret Starszych Panów” comedy series. It was issued on October 30, 2008.

Although the Kabaret Starszych Panów comedy show was established at a time when television wasn’t common in Polish homes, the unique nature of the series certainly made it an unforgettable one and though some of the recorded material was lost irretrievably, we still have all the reason to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the creation of this outstanding work of musical and literary wit. On the back side Kazimierz attached two definitive stamps of the 1997 issue “Polish Manor Houses”. There, the postmark of Tarnobrzeg can be found too.

Željko sent me this nice “flower” cover. He again used an envelope of the Croatian book club “Svijet Knjige” and attached three Bosnian stamps with flowers and plants. The left one has a face value of 0.80 convertible marks (KM) and depicts the widow flower Knautia travnicensis. It was issued in 2007. The middle stamp was issued in 1996 and depicts the bellflower species Campanula Hercegovina. It has a face value of 0.30 KM. The last stamp shows the cabbage Brassica oleracea var. capitata. It was issued in 2006 and has a face value of 0.40 KM.

Alfredo sent me this nice cover from his trip to Luxembourg. He attached a stamp issued on March 18, 2008, which commemorates Saint Willibrord (658-739), the “Apostle to the Frisians”. The stamp has a face value of 50 cent, in order to complete the postage, Alfredo added a 20 cent stamp issued on October 1, 2001. It is part of a set showing the newly introduced euro coins.

This nice cover has attached four different stamps. The blue ones were issued on December 5, 2007, and commemorate the 100th anniversary of the scouting movement. The stamps depict the scouting 2007 badge.

The two stamps in the top right corner are a set commemorating the “19th century Defensive Bulwarks of the City of Guatemala”. The left stamp of the se-tenant pair depicts the fort of San José, the right one shows the fort of Matamoros. Both stamps have a face value of 1 quetzal and were issued on June 27, 2008.

The last stamp is an overprinted definitive of 5 quetzal. It depicts the Culture Centre Miguel Ángel Asturias, which is dedicated to the famous writer, who won the literature Nobel Prize in 1967.

Hamzeh sent me this beautiful cover with stamps depicting the fish Carassius auratus (goldfish), Poecilia reticulata (guppy), and Betta splendens (Siamese fighting fish). The stamps are a set “New Year 1383 – Ornamental Fresh Water fishes”, which was issued on March 6, 2004. The Iranian calendar year 1383 corresponds to the Gregorian calendar year 2004 (March 2004 to March 2005 to be more exact).

The cover is a FDC of the above mentioned stamp set, which has two commemorative cancel with the inscription “New Year”. There is also the postmark of the posting date (Gregorian calendar).

On the back side there are an unknown sticker (the customs label?), the registered sticker, and a machine printed label with the posting date in Iranian calendar (04. 9. 87). In addition there are an “express” mark on both sides.
